Discover Cold Steel Warhammer
Warhammer
By the end of the 13th century, the sword was the dominant weapon of knights and men-at-arms. However, with the advent of plate armor, its dominance on the battlefield began to crumble, as it simply wasn't designed to pierce or dent this new type of armor. This is where the warhammer or battlehammer came into play...
The warhammer was probably the ideal weapon against opponents clad in plate armor. The heavy hammer head could massively dent helmets and armor with just a few blows, and the punch could crack open this armor like a modern can opener! In battle, the hammer head was usually used first to knock the enemy down and render them unable to fight. Once the fallen, defenseless opponent was on the ground, the hammer was turned upside down, and the prong was used to pierce their helmet and deliver the final blow. To reposition.
Cold Steels®'s modern interpretation of the warhammer is already very popular among martial artists and Hema reenactors. This battle hammer is highly maneuverable and easy to wield with one or both hands. The head is forged from 1055 carbon steel and differentially hardened. This means the mandrel point and striking surface of the hammer are fully hardened to penetrate and break hard material, while the rest of the head is softer to withstand heavy blows and provide better cushioning. The approximately 30" long handle is made of straight-grain American walnut and comes with two heavy-duty steel shaft springs.
