Discover Cold Steel War Hammer
Warhammer
By the late 13th century, the sword was the dominant weapon of knights and men-at-arms. However, with the advent of plate armour, its dominance on the battlefield began to crumble, as it simply was not designed to pierce or dent this new type of armour. This is where the war hammer or battle hammer came into play...
The war hammer was probably the ideal weapon against opponents clad in plate armour. The heavy hammer head could massively dent helmet and armour with just a few blows and the punch could rip open this armour like a modern can opener! In battle, the hammer head was usually used first to knock the enemy down and render them unable to fight. Once the downed and helpless opponent was on the ground, the hammer would be turned over and the spike used to pierce their helmet and deliver the finishing blow. In order to relocate.
Cold Steels® modern interpretation of the war hammer is already very popular among martial artists and hema reenactors. This battle hammer is highly maneuverable and easy to wield with one or both hands. The head is forged from 1055 carbon steel and differentially hardened. This means that the tip of the mandrel and striking surface of the hammer are fully hardened to penetrate and break through hard material, while the rest of the head is softer to withstand heavy blows and provide better cushioning. The approximately 30" long handle is made from straight grain hickory wood and comes with two heavy duty steel shaft springs.
