Manica, Roman arm guard, brass
In ancient Rome, an arm guard called a manica was used primarily by gladiators and also for military purposes. It extended from the shoulder to the hand and was initially made of organic materials such as linen or leather. Later, pieces of chain were also used, as well as scales and steel rails.
This replica of a manica consists of brass rails riveted together. It has a protective plate for the hand and a leather base, which is attached to the brass plates with leather cords. The manica is attached to the arm using leather straps and brass buckles.
There are also two rings to attach it to the shoulder end.
