Acquires Mainz Type Gladius, Windlass
Mainz type gladius, Windlass
The Roman army adopted a direct and pragmatic approach to warfare. The gladius was chosen as the most important secondary weapon because it was practical and efficient, performing excellently in all close-quarters combat situations. With this sword, they conquered most of the then-known world. Original pieces of this replica were unearthed from the ruins of Pompeii. Examples can be found in the book "What the Soldiers Wore on Hadrian's Wall" by H. Russell Robinson.
Early gladiuses, like this version based on the Mainz pattern, had a wasp waist and a long point that combined cutting and stabbing power in a practical weapon. This replica of the Mainz model has a bone handle with decorated brass appliqués on the scabbard. It is made of carbon steel by Windlass Steelcrafts and comes factory-sharpened.
Includes matching wooden case with leather sheath and brass appliqués.
Manufactured by windlass steelcrafts.
This sword is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume.
