Gift Magnum Tanto Ii, San Mai Steel

Magnum Tanto II with a blade made of San Mai® steel

San Mai® American Tanto Series

In today's knife industry, no one knows more about the tanto than Cold Steel®. After all, Cold Steel® was arguably the company that reinvented and popularized this type of knife in the early 1980s. Cold Steel® has invested millions of dollars in advertising, live events, and videos to convince the public of the many benefits of the tanto knife. Cold Steel® has been producing tantos for over 35 years, and to this day, no manufacturer or custom knife maker has been able to produce a tanto with the cutting and penetrating power of a Cold Steel® tanto.

On all tantos in this series, the longitudinally ground blade mirror has visible grinding lines and forms a beautiful contrast to the bright, satin-matte, hollow-ground primary bevel. This further highlights the unique appearance of the Cold Steel® tanto and is an example of the advanced grinding processes used by Cold Steel®.

These tantos also feature Cold Steel®'s famous Kray-Ex™ handle with a flattened oval profile. The flat oval shape ensures a secure grip because the handle fits in your palm and doesn't wobble or twist, even in tough applications that would have ruined lesser knives long ago. The use of Kray-Ex™ for knife handles is another Cold Steel® innovation. This space-age material is simply unparalleled. It won't crack or rot and is resistant to the harshest weather conditions.

Another feature worth mentioning here is the solid steel tapered pommel, designed by Lynn C. Thompson, which can serve as an effective striker in an emergency.

Each san mai® series tanto knife comes with a durable, high-quality secure-ex® sheath that will withstand years of heavy use and allow you to carry your knife with you, ready to use.

San Mai® is an expertly crafted three-layer stainless steel. A hard carbon steel is sandwiched between flexible, low-carbon spring steel. This ensures maximum edge retention with great resistance to lateral and impact loads. San Mai® is a globally registered trademark of Cold Steel®. Produced in extremely small quantities, this steel is used exclusively for Cold Steel®'s most exclusive stationary collector sheets.

Magnum tanto ii : 19 cm of cutting power, combined with a visually stunning tsuba (sword blade) style hand guard, possibly the perfect tanto.
