Cold Steels President Lynn C. Thompson was inspired by the Thai swords in his private collection as well as his intensive Thai martial arts practice and began creating his own interpretation of a Thai sword to work in machete format.

Lynn has been practicing Thai martial arts since the early 80's. He learned Thai Boxing from Bill Berg and the late Ernie Franco, and then studied Muay Thai and Krabi Krabong in detail with Ron Balicki, his current training partner and instructor for over 13 years.

The Thai Machete is the result of 4 years of development and optimization. Like the Thai swords it was inspired by, this machete is beautifully balanced and features a razor-sharp edge and tip. Although traditionally used in pairs in Thai martial arts, these long, curved blades are incredibly versatile. They are light enough to be used one-handed, yet feature an extra-long handle that offers enough room for both hands to increase leverage and cutting power.

Thanks to its wide blade and curved cutting edge, the Thai machete can serve excellently as a brush cutter. It effortlessly cuts through grass, climbing plants and light foliage. The fully sharpened blade uses the same strong 1055 carbon steel as the other classic blades in Cold Steel’s incredibly popular machete range. The durable, traditional-looking polypropylene handle features a flattened oval shape that prevents the machete from turning in your hand. The steel-reinforced guard element offers surprisingly good hand protection.
