Obtain Lorica Squamata, Roman Scale Armor
Lorica squamata, Roman scale armor
We offer here a high quality reconstruction of a Roman scale armour, the so-called lorica squamata .
This typical armour of the Roman Imperial cavalry consists of many small brass plates sewn onto a vest made of strong canvas and leather, similar to fish scales, and interwoven with wire on the long sides. This was intended to prevent enemy swords from piercing between the metal plates. The shape, size and material of the scales were very different. In Carnuntum, the capital of the Roman province of Pannonia, more than 30 different shapes and types were found. Our scale armour is the shortened version, which was used from about 100 to 250 AD.
The Lorica squamata is tied to fit the sides and neck using leather straps.
