Round lantern with horn windows
Made of iron with real horn windows. Almost all parts are riveted. Includes s-hook to hang the lantern. With door in the back.
About the history of the lantern:
Lanterns were already in use in the early Middle Ages. A light source, usually a candle, or more rarely a small oil lamp, was placed in a metal frame, the side surfaces of which were formed by finely scraped horn plates or, more elaborately at that time, by panes of glass or crystal. They were used for hanging in living rooms, as a light source on dark paths (night watchmen) and as signals on ships. There were also lanterns made of pure tin with many holes in the usually round body to let air in and light out. Hanging lanterns made of wrought iron became an object of artistic training in the 16th century. (source: wikipedia)
