The program presented here by hurdy-gurdy virtuosos Riccardo Delfino and Matthias Loibner offers a representative selection of the 18th-century French hurdy-gurdy repertoire. Highly accomplished musicians, however, were reserved for the virtuosos of the vielle.

One of the two performers' main concerns was not only to address the rhythmic effects of the coup de poignet and the crank technique, but also to explore the concept of expressive interpretation. Furthermore, it was necessary to reconcile the interpretative demands of the Baroque repertoire with the diverse discoveries of contemporary hurdy-gurdy players.

This jam-packed CD includes pieces by Philippe Dugué, Charles Buterne, Jean-Baptiste Dupuits, Jacques Christophe Naudot, Ravet, Jean-Noël Marchand, and Charles Bâton.
