Samburu spear with scabbard, 1055 carbon steel
The Samburu people of Kenya's rugged northern borderland are a semi-nomadic people of tall, slender people who make their living as herders of sheep, goats, donkeys, camels, and cattle. The warriors of this tribe, known as the Lmurran , are particularly impressive: they never cut their long, braided hair and paint their faces and torsos with beautiful, intricate designs using a cosmetic mixture of animal fat and red ochre.
Given the constant threat to small livestock and herds from predators and lawless shiftas (bandits) who can attack at any moment, they rarely venture outside their kraal (small, fenced settlement) unarmed. It would be unimaginable for any warrior worthy of the name to be caught without a spear.
At over 2 meters long, the Samburu warrior's javelin is the most advanced, state-of-the-art spear of its kind in the world. This extraordinary weapon allows Samburu warriors to swiftly dispatch leopards, lions, and even marauding armed gangs from incredible distances. This spear could be considered the .300 Winchester Magnum of the spear world. It can be used from long distances, fly straight, take a flat trajectory, hit hard, and penetrate deeply. Cold Steel was inspired by the Samburu tribe's spear and developed its own version made from modern materials.
Each cold steel Samburu spear includes three assembly elements:
- The sharp, leaf-shaped spearhead welded to a strong steel shaft;
- The opposite, the balance spine (also called shoe ), which can serve as an alternative tip during throwing training to protect one's own paddle on more important occasions;
- The black walnut handle, which serves as a connecting piece between the toe and the shoe and is conical at both ends.
For easy transport, all Samburu spears are delivered disassembled. Simply fit the spearhead and the shoe onto the handle and screw them together using the included mounting hardware. A secure-ex® sheath is included.
Note: When producing Samburu spears, Cold Steel places great importance on the greatest possible robustness. If the shaft or shoe still bends, the spear can be easily straightened with a vice or hammer. The solid walnut handle may eventually break and need to be replaced.
