Treat Yourself to Richard the Lionheart's Dagger
Dagger of Richard the Lionheart, Marto
Richard i was king of england from 6 july 1189 until his death. he was the third of five sons of king henry ii of england and eleanor of aquitaine. he was known as richard cœur de lionor (richard the lionheart) because of his reputation as a great military leader and warrior. by the age of 16, richard had taken command of his own army and put down rebellions against his father in poitou. the traditional image of richard the lionheart, the second plantagenet king of england, has come down to us through the centuries as a glorious crusader and knight. captured by the emperor of austria, he was later rescued by the young troubadour blondel, who saw richard singing a famous ballad. richard was called the lionheart at the beginning of the third crusade, when philip of france was compared to a lamb and richard to a lion. he convinced his officers at winchester that they belonged in the legend of king arthur around the round table and that they had the magic sword excalibur. richard was a generous knight and a wise politician, but above all a great soldier. his own personal skills were a source of inspiration to his men in battle.
