Enjoy Kraja - Fast CD Under Himmelens

Kraja - under himmelens fäste

Published in 2008

Four young people celebrate traditional Swedish folklore, arranged for polyphonic female singing.

The female vocal quartet Kraja consists of four young women (all born between 1983 and 1986) from around the town of Umeå in northern Sweden: Frida Johansson, Linnea Nilsson and the sisters Eva and Lisa Lestander. In the spring of 2001 they made their debut on the stage of the Umeå Folk Festival.

Typical of Kraja's music are the incomparable four-part harmonic vocal arrangements, which they all create themselves. Together they sound like a perfectly tuned and carefully balanced instrument. The whole atmosphere, the loving aura, the surrounding air literally vibrate with the individual songs.

Their varied repertoire includes traditional Swedish folk songs, love songs, humorous and rude songs and poetic hymns, dance tunes and choral songs, enriched with some pieces written by themselves.

Their debut CD, Vackert Väder, from 2005, brought the quartet an unexpectedly big success. The media and the public immediately fell in love with the four young ladies and offered them numerous appearances outside Sweden's borders. Kraja played in all Scandinavian countries, in Germany, Ukraine and Estonia. In the summer of 2008 they embarked on a long tour from Sweden, through Central Europe, to Russia and Iceland.

Since 2006, Kraja has been working on the next album for Vackert Väder. This time, the quartet focused on some of Sweden’s most popular folk songs. The new CD Under Himmelens Fäste (Under the Sky) features, among other things, such well-known Swedish folk songs as Uti vår Hage, En Gång i Min Ungdom, En Sjöman älskar Havets Våg, Jag vet en Dejlig Rosa and, of course, the title track Allt Under Himmelens Fäste.

The word kraja comes from the Sami language and means something like the place where you long.
