Gift Black Katana, Marto
Black katana, marto
A simple and elegant katana with a fuchi (grip ferrule), kashira (grip cap), tsuba (blade guard), tsuka-ito (grip strap), and saya (scabbard) all rolled into one. The golden habaki (blade ferrule) underlines the high-quality feel of this samurai sword. A wonderful decorative sword from Marto's exclusive collection of oriental weapons.
Historically, the katana was one of the traditional Japanese swords used by the samurai of feudal Japan.
The first use of the word katana to refer to a long sword, which was distinct from a tachi, existed as early as the Kamakura period (1185–1333).
The katana was often paired with a smaller, similar sword, such as a wakizashi, or it could also be carried with the tanto, a smaller, similarly shaped dagger. The combination of a katana with a smaller sword is called a daisho. Only samurai were allowed to carry the daisho: it represented the samurai's social power and personal honor.
The katana is characterized by its distinctive appearance: a curved, thin, single-edged blade with a circular guard and a long, two-handed handle. It was historically associated with the samurai of feudal Japan.
