Enjoy Katana Paper Crane

Paper crane katana

The Paper Crane Katana is without a doubt the highest level of quality Hanwei swordsmithing currently available.

The blade is forged from Hanwei's own Tamahagane steel and the fittings reflect the atmosphere of Japanese theatre. The katana's name comes from the art of paper folding ( origami ), and the paper cranes depicted adorn the eye-catching
Tsuba and fuchi and kashira , which feature high-quality nanako (dot backgrounds).

The menuki depict mime masks, which are used equally in Japanese and Western theatre.

The saya houses a kozuka , which is decorated with musical instruments from the theatre.

The origami theme also carries over to the extraordinary hand-woven silk sageo , which is the result of many hours of skillful work on the loom.

Tamahagane steel is produced by constructing and firing a traditional Japanese steel smelting furnace, the Tatara . This charcoal furnace produces very pure steel from iron sand. The resulting steel kera (flower) can then be broken up and separated into different pieces with different carbon content, from which the blade core and blade core are formed. The blade sheath can then be formed. The blade sheath is now repeatedly forged and folded to remove slag inclusions and voids. It is then forged around the blade core before the resulting piece is forged into a blade, traditionally referred to as Kobuse making. Careful heat treatment, shaping and subsequent polishing reveal the hada as well as the white particles of the hamon . The result of this process is a katana that is not only very popular with hobbyists, collectors and its elegant appearance, but also an extremely functional blade that has an especially hard cutting edge thanks to its carbon-containing sheath and excellent strength and shock absorption thanks to its softer core.
