Masterpieces of Asian blacksmithing

- The sword blades are hand forged in carbon steel and tempered in a traditional way.

- The blades have been folded 12 times (resulting in approximately 8,000 layers) and have a beautiful Damascus structure.

- The sharp blades have been provided with a bo-hi (channel) to reduce weight.

- The handles (tsuka) are made of wood, covered with real fish skin (seed).

- The handle wrap (tsuka-ito) is traditionally made of black cotton.

- Two menukis are inserted into the handle.

- The sword rods are especially long and are fixed to the handle with 2 bamboo pins (mekugi).

- The sheaths (saya) are made of wood.

- The blade clamps (habaki) are made of brass.

- Made according to museum templates.



John lee katana golden flower

The model for this exceptionally beautiful tsuba was probably made by a great master in the 18th century. Since, unlike the cutlers, they did not sign their works, the creators are unfortunately not known by name. The tsuba has an elaborate design, with golden cherry blossoms (sakura), one of the most important symbols of Japanese culture. They represent beauty, new beginnings and transience.
