The Lion Dog Katana features an o-kissaki blade made from Hanwei's HWS-1S high alloy steel, which combines superior performance with an excellent hardening line of O-Choji ( hamon ).

This steel is manufactured in Hanwei's new high-tech forging, resulting in a state-of-the-art blade that is one of the best Hanwei has ever produced in terms of edge retention and durability.

HWS-1S steel blades owe their excellent performance characteristics to a combination of carefully selected alloys and complex processing that manipulates the steel’s carbon content throughout the blade’s length. This results in a very robust and durable blade with a hard, wear-resistant edge. Detailed appointments include a blackened iron tsuba with a guardian lion motif, matching fuchi and kashira , and a golden peony-like menuki .

The elaborate saya consists of a fluted, glossy lacquered section at the koiguchi/kurikata and a painted underside with a splattered look—how attractive! A striking appearance is guaranteed. The high-quality, multicolored sageo is hand-woven from pure silk.
