Gift Medieval Bernhard Doublet with Nestel Ribbons, Black
Medieval Bernhard doublet with nestel ribbons, black
This close-fitting doublet is made from cotton twill and has contrasting detailing. The centre front is closed with a wine red Nestlé ribbon. There are also Nestlé bows at the hem of the sleeves and on the attached lap. With the Nestlé ribbons on the lap, the leg warmers can be attached directly to the doublet. This doublet is lined with a contrasting lightweight cotton fabric. This is not a doublet.
The doublet with its close-fitting cut appeared in the early Middle Ages and replaced the long, loose tunic. It was combined with trousers or leg warmers, which were attached directly to the doublet by means of nests. center front. The doublet was initially worn as a high-necked undercoat. During the Renaissance, the neckline became deeper and the doublet became more richly decorated.
Typically, a light shirt or bodysuit was worn under the doublet.
There are numerous representations of doublets from the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, for example in the codices palatini germanici 466.
