Enjoy John Lee Ten Kei Katana

John lee ten kei katana

Masterpiece of Asian blacksmithing

- The sharp blade of the sword is hand forged from 1095 carbon steel (not stainless).

- Cross section of the kobuse leaf.

- The sharp blade has been provided with a fuller (bo-hi) to reduce weight.

- Traditional and differentiated hardening of the blade with a clay coating, resulting in a beautiful hamon line.

- Suitable for cutting tests; 60° rockwell at the cutting edge, 40° at the back of the blade.

- Fine hand-crafted findings (tsuba, fuchi, kashira, menuki) refined with gold and silver.

- The handle (tsuka) is made of wood, covered with authentic ray skin (seed).

- The tight handle wrap made of green silk is designed in the traditional katate maki style (so-called war wrap).

- Brass blade clamp (habaki).

- The tang of the sword is kept extra long and is fixed to the handle with 2 bamboo pins (mekugi).

- The scabbard (saya) is made of wood, decorated with high quality sageo (winding).

- With ends (koiguchi, kurigata and kojiri) made of buffalo horn.

- Made according to museum templates.

Ten kei can be translated as a gift from heaven and is a symbol of the beauty of nature. Inspired by this, delicate floral motifs are reflected in the handmade accessories.

The blade was hand-forged in the elaborate kobuse style. Here, a hard shell of 1095 carbon steel surrounds a softer, low-carbon steel core. Thanks to traditional, differentiated hardening with a layer of clay, the blade has both hardness and flexibility. Like its historical predecessors, this katana combines grace and utility in a unique way.
