The sport of lai-do deals with the art of sword drawing and fixed attack techniques (kata), but as a formal exercise. The iaito, a blunt practice sword, is generally used. The focus is on developing the unity of body, mind and sword (ki-ken-tai-ichi). The highest level of mastery is achieved when one can master any combat situation without ever having to draw the sword. The name kei-ben represents the simple, practical design of the sword.
