- Brass blade clamp (habaki).

- The tang of the sword is kept especially long and is fixed to the handle with 2 bamboo pins (mekugi).

- The scabbard (saya) is made of wood, decorated with high quality sageo (winding).

- With ends (koiguchi, kurigata and kojiri) made of buffalo horn.

- Made according to museum templates.

Hosokawa Katsumoto (1430–1473) was an important shogunal governor in the 15th century and a key figure in Japan's Onin War. With over 80,000 men, he fought against his father-in-law Yamana Sozen at the then capital, Kyoto. After 10 years of war, Kyoto was destroyed, and neither side could claim victory.

Hand-forged in the hon-sanmei style, one of the most complex forging processes ever attempted, the blade has three zones of varying hardness. The edge is made of hardened 1095 carbon steel, the sides are made of medium-hardness 1065 carbon steel, and the core is made of softer, low-carbon steel. Traditional, differentiated hardening with the help of a clay layer further refines the blade and creates an exceptionally beautiful hamon line.
