Masterpiece of Asian blacksmithing

- The sharp sword blade is hand forged from carbon steel (not stainless) and hardened.

- The handle (tsuka) is made of wood, covered with real fish skin (seed).

- The tight-fitting handle wrap made of dark blue cotton is designed in the traditional katate maki style (so-called war wrap).

- The accessories (tsuba, fuchi, menuki, kashira) show a golden triton.

- The tang of the sword is kept extra long and is fixed to the handle with 2 bamboo pins (mekugi).

- The sheath (saya) is made of wood.

- The blade clamp (habaki) is made of brass.

- Made according to museum templates.



Imori is the name of the Japanese (mountain) newt. The decorative golden newts on the fittings, which give this otherwise simple sword its name, are unmistakable.
