Give the John Lee Gunto Katana as a gift
John Lee Gunto Katana
The Japanese military sword is called a gunto. In the late 19th century, the design was based on French military sabers. To bring the spirit of the samurai code of honor ( bushido ) closer to the troops, a katana-based design was adopted starting in 1934.
The swords of common soldiers were mostly industrially manufactured and therefore of simple quality. In contrast, the swords of high-ranking military officers were often fitted with traditional heirloom blades. An officer's rank could be recognized by the colors of the sageo . Unlike the katana, the sageo was mounted at the end of the gunto handle.
This sword features a shinogi-zukuri style blade. Beneath the decorated tsuba is a traditional locking button that can be used to draw the sword from its scabbard. The frame of the gunto katana is brown, as is the cotton handle wrapping and lacquered sword scabbard.
