- The blades have been folded 12 times (resulting in approximately 8,000 layers) and have a beautiful damask structure.
- The sharp blades have been provided with a bo-hi (channel) to reduce weight.
- The handles (tsuka) are made of wood, covered with real fish skin (seed).
- The handle wrap (tsuka-ito) is traditionally made of black cotton.
- The menukis are embedded in the handle.
- The sword ribs are extra long and are attached to the handle with two bamboo pins (mekugi).
- The scabbards (saya) are made of wood.
- The blade clamps (habaki) are made of brass.
- Made according to museum templates.
John reads so much golden flower
The model for this exceptionally beautiful tsuba was most likely made by a great master in the 18th century. Since, unlike the knifemakers, they did not sign their work, the makers are unfortunately not known by name. The tsuba has an intricate design, featuring golden cherry blossoms (sakura), one of the most important symbols of Japanese culture. They represent beauty, new beginnings, and transience.
