Masterpieces of Asian blacksmithing

- The tanto blade is hand forged from carbon steel and hardened in a traditional way.

- The sharp blade has a bo-hi (channel) to reduce weight.

- The handle (tsuka) is made of wood, covered with real fish skin (seed).

- The handle wrap (tsuka-ito) is traditionally made of black cotton.

- The menukis are embedded in the handle.

- The sheath (saya) is made of wood.

- The blade clamp (habaki) is made of brass.

- Made according to museum templates.



John lee aikuchi so much

The aikuchi tanto traditionally has no guard (tsuba). The most striking feature is the shape of the unokobi zukuri blade, which was also often used on the naginata (Japanese spear sword).
