- The handle (tsuka) is made of wood, covered with real fish skin (seed).
- The handle wrap (tsuka-ito) is traditionally made of black cotton.
- The menukis are embedded in the handle.
- The scabbard (saya) is made of wood.
- The blade clamp (habaki) is made of brass.

John Lee Aikuchi Tanto
The aikuchi tanto traditionally has no guard (tsuba). The shape of the unokobi zukuri blade is striking, as it was also often used on the naginata (Japanese sword spear).
