Treat yourself to Imperial Italic 'D' Krefeld, Steel and Brass
Type according to HR Robinson: Imperial Italic D
Continental classification: Weisenau-Krefeld type
Imperial-period helmet after a find near the gate of the camp and later of the Gelduba fort (Krefeld-Gellep, Germany). Built between 12 and 9 BC, it played an important role in the Batavian Revolt of 69/70 AD and existed until the 5th century. The helmet uniquely combines a wide variety of stylistic elements: eye ornaments with raised pupils (as already known from pre-Roman helmets), rudimentary raised brow lines (as on Gallic imperial types), and cross-shaped reinforcements from italic imperial types.
Neck shield with angular decorations, a handle, and a tabula ansata. The cheek flaps missing from the badly damaged original were reconstructed based on the model of the Imperial Italic helmet of Worms and an individual find with a temple ornament from Venlo (Netherlands).
Dating: Due to stylistic elements, primarily from the 2nd century AD, its use toward the end of the 1st century is also possible. The original is a unique find, with no other directly related finds datable. In this sense, it cannot yet be proven that the helmet was lost during the Batavian Uprising.
This elaborate reconstruction recreates this extraordinary helmet down to the smallest detail.
