A beer of the gods

Hymir, the dark one, belongs to the jötun, the Norse giants. He once went out with Thor to catch the Midgard Serpent. Hymir has a cauldron so large that Aegir, the Norse god of brewing, can brew enough beer in it to quench the thirst of all the gods. Thor borrowed this cauldron from Hymir and gave it to Aegir.

The Wacken brewery also borrowed this kettle and takes advantage of its size not to brew a lot of beer, but to create an especially strong beer. Large quantities of the finest barley malt, partially roasted, give this divine brew the power and darkness typical of an imperial stout. This is counterbalanced by fine roasted and chocolate aromas, as well as a balanced bitterness.

Stout is a strong, dark, vegetal, malty beer with roots in England. It is a variation on porter, which was the predominant beer style among working-class English people in the 18th and 19th centuries. Imperial stout, a strong version of a stout, was first brewed in England in the 18th century as a gift for the Russian Empress Catherine the Great.
