Get Medieval Hundsgugel, Churburg Castle, Late 14th Century. 1.6mm Steel.

Medieval gugel dog, medieval helmet, Churburg Castle, late 14th century, 1.6 mm steel

The hundsgugel, a variant of the late medieval bascinet (also called a hood or bascinet ), enjoyed great popularity among knights and warriors throughout Europe until around 1420. The distinctive visor design with a projecting muzzle gave this medieval helmet its name. Schweinegugel is another, albeit uncommon, term for this type of helmet.

The visored helmet we offer here is based on an original piece from the late 14th century, which can now be admired in the Churburg ( Castel Coira ) armory in South Tyrol.

It's made of approximately 1.6 mm thick steel and has a fully removable face shield, held securely in place by pins. The visor is equipped with a series of viewing slits approximately 1.5 cm high and 0.5 cm wide, and the numerous round openings on the right side provide the necessary air circulation.

Steel vervelles were placed on the sides and bottom edge of the hull. These small, protruding rivets with holes are used to attach a chain link (the link is not included).

The interior is blackened for improved corrosion protection and features a padded piece of black cotton fabric, secured with sturdy stitching to the helmet's brim. The helmet can be secured with straps under the chin.

This wearable knight's helmet is best suited to late medieval settings and is ideal for completing a European warrior's armor. It will make your transformation into a proud knight simply perfect and is also an excellent decorative addition to any helmet collector's treasure trove.
