Get Medieval Hundsgugel, Churburg Castle, Late 14th Century. 1.6mm Steel.

Medieval Gugel dog, medieval helmet, Churburg castle, late 14th century, 1.6 mm steel

The hundsgugel, a variant of the late medieval bascinet (also called a hood or bascinet ), enjoyed great popularity among knights and warriors throughout Europe until about 1420. The distinctive visor design with a protruding muzzle gave this medieval helmet its name. Schweinegugel is another, albeit uncommon, term to describe this type of helmet.

The visor helmet offered here is based on an original piece from the late 14th century, which can now be admired in the Churburg Armory ( Castel Coira ) in South Tyrol.

It is made of approximately 1.6 mm thick steel and has a fully removable face shield, which is held firmly in position with pins. The visor is equipped with a series of viewing slits approximately 1.5 cm high and 0.5 cm wide, and the numerous round recesses on the right side provide the necessary air circulation.

On the sides and bottom edge of the helmet were placed the so-called steel vervelles . These small protruding rivets with holes are used to fix a chain feeder (the feeder is not included).

The interior is blackened for better protection against corrosion and has a padded piece of black cotton fabric, which is fixed with strong stitching to the edge of the helmet. The helmet can be secured with straps under the chin.

This wearable knight helmet is best suited to late medieval settings and is ideal for completing a European warrior's armor. It will make your transformation into a proud knight simply perfect and is also an excellent decorative addition to every helmet collector's treasure trove.
