Gift Hundsgugel, Medieval Helmet, Churburg Castle Approx. 1395, 1.2mm Steel.

Hundsgugel, medieval helmet, Churburg Castle ca. 1395, 1.2 mm steel

The hundsgugel, which was very popular among knights and warriors throughout Europe until about 1420, is a variant of the late medieval bascinet (also called a hood or bascinet ). The distinctive visor design with a protruding snout (for added protection and better ventilation) gave this helmet its name. Schweinegugel is another, though uncommon, term to describe this type of helmet.

The visored helmet offered here is a replica of an original piece from the 14th century (approx. 1395), which can now be admired in the Churburg Armory ( Castel Coira ) in South Tyrol.

It is made of 1.2 mm steel and has a fully removable face shield, which is held firmly in position with pins. The visor is equipped with a vision slit that is approximately 15 cm long and 1 cm wide and the numerous round recesses on the right side ensure the necessary air circulation. So-called vervelles (small protruding rivets with holes) placed on the sides and bottom edge of the helmet are used to attach a chain rest (the rest are not included in the scope of delivery).

The blackened interior has a padded, adjustable inner piece made of cotton fabric, which is fixed with stable stitching to the edge of the helmet bell. The chin strap, made of 3 mm thick brown leather, is adjustable and equipped with a brass buckle.

This beautiful, wearable knight's helmet will make your transformation into a proud knight perfect. Of course, it is also an excellent decorative addition to any helmet collector's treasure trove.
