Gift Hundsgugel, Medieval Helmet, Churburg Castle Approx. 1395, 1.2mm Steel.

Medieval helmet, Churburg Castle, ca. 1395, 1.2 mm steel

The hundsgugel, which was very popular among knights and warriors throughout Europe until around 1420, is a variant of the late medieval bascinet (also called a hood or bascinet ). The distinctive visor design with a protruding muzzle (for added protection and better ventilation) gave this helmet its name. Schweinegugel is another, albeit uncommon, term for this type of helmet.

The visored helmet we offer here is a replica of an original piece from the 14th century (approx. 1395), which can now be admired in the Churburg ( Castel Coira ) armory in South Tyrol.

It's made of 1.2 mm steel and has a fully removable face shield, held securely in place by pins. The visor is equipped with a viewing slot approximately 15 cm long and 1 cm wide, and the numerous round recesses on the right side ensure the necessary air circulation. Vervelles (small protruding rivets with holes) placed on the sides and lower edge of the helmet are used to attach a chain rest (the rest are not included).

The blackened interior features a padded, adjustable cotton fabric liner secured to the helmet's bell rim with sturdy stitching. The chin strap, made of 3 mm thick brown leather, is adjustable and features a brass buckle.

This beautiful, wearable knight's helmet will make your transformation into a proud knight a perfect match. Of course, it's also an excellent decorative addition to any helmet collector's treasure trove.
