Enjoy the Medieval Helmet, Approx. 1370, 1.6mm Steel
Medieval helmet, ca. 1370, 1.6 mm steel
The hundsgugel, a variant of the late medieval bascinet (also called a hood or bascinet ), enjoyed great popularity among knights and warriors throughout Europe until around 1420. The distinctive visor design with a projecting muzzle gave this medieval helmet its name. Schweinegugel is another, albeit uncommon, term for this type of helmet.
The visor helmet offered here is based on original examples from the 14th century (approx. 1370). It is made of approximately 1.6 mm thick steel and has a movable, fully removable face shield, held securely in position by pins and reinforced with riveted brass strips. The visor is equipped with two viewing slits approximately 9 cm long and 0.6 cm wide. The numerous round slits on the right side, as well as two smaller slits at mouth level, ensure the necessary air circulation.
Brass vervelles were attached to the sides and bottom edge of the helmet. These small, protruding rivets with holes were used to attach a chain link (the link is not included).
The interior is blackened for better corrosion protection and has an adjustable linen fabric insert, which is secured to the edge of the helmet's bell with heavy-duty stitching.
This wearable knight's helmet is best suited to late medieval settings and is ideal for completing a European warrior's armor. It will make your transformation into a proud knight simply perfect and is also an excellent decorative addition to any helmet collector's treasure trove.
