Treat yourself to Hundsgugel, Medieval Helmet, Approx. 1370, 1.6mm Steel

Hundsgugel, medieval helmet, ca. 1370, 1.6 mm steel

The hundsgugel, a variant of the late medieval bascinet (also called a hood or bascinet ), enjoyed great popularity among knights and warriors throughout Europe until about 1420. The distinctive visor design with a protruding muzzle gave this medieval helmet its name. Schweinegugel is another, albeit uncommon, term to describe this type of helmet.

The helmet with visor offered here is based on original examples from the 14th century (ca. 1370). It is made of approximately 1.6 mm thick steel and has a movable, fully removable face shield, which is held firmly in position with pins and reinforced with riveted brass strips. The visor is equipped with two viewing slits approximately 9 cm long and 0.6 cm wide, and the numerous round slits on the right side as well as two smaller slits at mouth level ensure the necessary air circulation.

On the sides and bottom edge of the helmet were fixed the so-called vervelles , made of brass. These small protruding rivets with holes are used to fix a chain platter (the platter is not included).

The interior is blackened for better protection against corrosion and has an adjustable linen fabric insert, which is fixed to the edge of the helmet hood with strong stitching.

This wearable knight helmet is best suited to late medieval settings and is ideal for completing a European warrior's armor. It will make your transformation into a proud knight simply perfect and is also an excellent decorative addition to every helmet collector's treasure trove.
