Enjoy Hundsgugel, Approx. 1400, 2mm Steel
Dogs' Gugel, approx. 1400, 2 mm steel
-Suitable for exhibition fights-
The hundsgugel helmet variant developed from the late Middle Ages. The bascinet, also known as the bascinet, was the preferred helmet shape among noble knights and warriors until around 1420. The distinctive design of the visor gave this helmet its name, hundsgugel (=dog hood/dog head), and its widespread distribution throughout Central Europe.
The original of our fully battle-ready reproduction was probably made around 1400/1410 in Milan, northern Italy, a bastion of armory at the time. The helmet is made of 2 mm thick sheet steel, hand-formed, riveted, and welded. Its robustness guarantees good protection in exhibition combat.
The helmet has a flip-up visor and two folding supports in the neck and chest areas. The helmet also has a comfortable padded fabric insert and a leather chin strap.
The holes on the side of the helmet's lower rim are used to attach a chain guard, as protection for the chest and shoulders. We have these chain guards in our range in different types of braid, which can be found in the chain guards category.
