Delight yourself with Horst Grimm - The Book of Sordellina Cd
Horst grimm - il libro della sordellina
Nuremberg-based musician and instrument maker Horst Grimm reconstructed the parlor flute 'sordellina', which was played in the early Baroque period, based on a manuscript by Giovanni Lorenzo Baldano found in Savona, Italy.
Despite the scant historical information on this two-part instrument, he manages to interpret Baldano's difficult-to-understand tablatures using a variety of sources and combining them into a convincing overall musical picture.
In combination with period instruments, a unique document of Italian music from the early 17th century is created.
The tablature book for playing the sordellina is the only surviving source of music for the sordellina. The author, Giovanni Lorenzo Baldano, compiled it between 1600 and 1603. The content is based on Neapolitan folk songs and dances.
The manuscript also contains several works for the human voice with sordellina accompaniment, including four poems by Gabriello Chiabrera (1552–1638).
Horst Grimm, known among others for the Franconian group älabätsch, impresses on this CD with his virtuoso bagpipe playing. As a musician and instrument maker, he has spent many years intensively researching and reconstructing this fascinating bagpipe.
