Looking for a sturdy, high-quality hand armor that doesn't cost a lot of money? You've come to the right place! These beautiful disc gloves offer excellent value for money.

Gauntlets were an indispensable part of plate armor in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. They offered optimal protection for hands and wrists both on the battlefield and in jousting tournaments.

The combat gloves we offer here in pairs are also known as hentzen . Worn with mittens underneath, these gauntlet-style fingerless gloves were designed to protect the wrist, back of the hand, base of the fingers, and the entire thumb. While they didn't offer the same protection as fully armored gloves, they did allow full use of the fingers.

This particular type is an early Maximilian style , called Schott-Sonnenberg . Maximilian armor (or Riefel armor) developed as an alternative to the Gothic armor, which was also very popular at the same time. It is named after Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor from 1493 to 1519, and was used in Germany in the last years of the 15th century and the first quarter of the 16th century. The Schott-Sonnenberg type was a short, transitional style that lacked the decorative fluting that adorned classical Maximilian armor.

Our Maximilian Hentzen are handmade from approximately 1.6 mm thick steel (slight variations in steel thickness are possible due to the manufacturing process). The inside is blackened for improved corrosion protection. A bar with sturdy, decorative brass rivets on the back of the hand, thumb, and wrist ensures the necessary freedom of movement. The base of the forearm is protected by a long, tapered cuff, also decorated with brass rivets. The lower edge of the cuff and the upper edge of the socket on the back of the hand are crimped.

These close-fitting mittens offer not only an authentic look and flexibility, but also comfort. This is ensured by the soft yet durable suede inner gloves, which are securely riveted to the thumb. In addition, each thumb is equipped with an additional stitched leather insert. Inside each handle are two riveted straps made of sturdy leather, approximately 3 mm thick, ensuring a secure hold.

These wearable armored gauntlets are suitable for light combat. They are best suited to late medieval settings and are ideal for completing a European knight's armor.

Our handcrafted articulated gauntlets not only impress with their combination of protection , mobility , and comfort , but are also simply a real eye-catcher. And they're affordable too! So go ahead and order this great piece of history today that will add the finishing touches to your medieval knight armor!

The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend regularly maintaining your plate gloves, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for preserving steel products.

The above specifications may vary slightly from specimen to specimen.
