10th Century Viking Bronze Buckle (for 1.5cm Belts)
This bronze buckle
Viking bronze buckle
It is a faithful tribute to the
Nordic craftsmanship of the 10th century
. Cast by the
lost wax technique
It reproduces authentic openwork designs from the period that adorned the belts of warriors, merchants, and sailors. The intricate intertwined beast shapes reflect the powerful Borre and Urnes styles prevalent in Viking metalwork.
Viking metalwork
- where snakes and mythical creatures were intertwined as ornament and symbol of protection.
Bronze belts of this type were common in graves throughout Scandinavia, especially those of high-status individuals. Often attached to leather belts worn over tunics or cloaks, these buckles were not merely functional but also proclaimed identity, loyalty, and artistry. This piece, with its narrow 1.5 cm adjustment width, is ideal for the thinner Viking-style belts worn with cartridge belts or sword frogs.
