Forged Tomahawks

Cold Steel® high-quality tomahawks are precision-forged from 1055 carbon steel. When producing impact tools, especially those equipped with a cutting edge, drop forging offers many distinct advantages. Using multiple dies (hollow molds/die) connected to massive forging hammers, the steel is shaped step by step into a completely homogeneous mass and pressed by impact to achieve uniform grain flow and minimize defect formation. All Cold Steel® tomahawks are also differentially hardened: the cutting edge and striking surface of the hammer are fully hardened for razor-sharp sharpness, while the rest of the head is kept softer to absorb shock and impact. Spontonian falcons

Although most tomahawks were designed as chopping or splitting tools, a less common variant also existed, the sponton tomahawk ( spontoon hawk ). Its blade, which was specifically designed for stabbing, could deliver stab wounds that were often fatal. This axe typically had either a diamond-shaped blade or a slanted blade that was sharpened on both sides. It was therefore nearly useless as an everyday tool, but as a weapon it was fearsome and cruelly effective. Since modern spontoon hawks are extremely rare today (aside from inferior imports), Cold Steel® has decided to address this shortcoming. The new models are available with either a classic slanted ( slant ) or diamond-shaped ( diamond ) blade. They are fully sharpenable and feature a hammer head that mimics the look of a traditional tomahawk's butt.



1055 carbon steel

The carbon content and relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very stable material, free of the brittleness inherent in most high carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that need to have a high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes and swords.
