Forged Tomahawks

High-quality Cold Steel® tomahawks are precision forged from 1055 carbon steel. When producing impact tools, especially those with a cutting edge, drop forging offers many distinct advantages. Using multiple dies (hollow molds/dies) connected to massive forging hammers, the steel is formed step by step into a completely homogeneous mass and impact-pressed to achieve uniform grain flow and minimize defect formation. All Cold Steel® tomahawks are also differentially hardened: the cutting edge and striking surface of the hammer are fully hardened for razor sharpness, while the rest of the head remains softer to absorb shock and impact.

Spontaneous falcons

Although most tomahawks were designed as chopping or splitting tools, there was also a less common variant, the sponton tomahawk ( spontoon hawk ). Its blade, which was specifically designed for stabbing, could cause stab wounds that were often fatal. This axe typically had a diamond-shaped or slanted blade sharpened on both sides. It was therefore almost useless as an everyday tool, but as a weapon, it was fearsome and cruelly effective. Since modern spontoon hawks are extremely rare today (apart from inferior imports), Cold Steel® decided to address this deficiency. The new models are available with a classic slanted ( slant ) or diamond-shaped ( diamond ) blade. They are fully sharpenable and feature a hammerhead that mimics the look of a traditional tomahawk's bowl.

Carbon steel 1055

The carbon content and relatively low levels of other materials in this steel make it a very stable material, free from the brittleness inherent in most high-carbon steels. This steel is ideal for blades that require high impact resistance and is therefore often used for large fixed knives, machetes, and swords.
