Cold Steel® high-quality tomahawks are precision-crafted from drop-forged 1055 carbon steel. When producing impact tools, especially those equipped with a cutting edge, drop forging offers many distinct advantages. Using multiple dies (hollow molds/die) connected to massive forging hammers, the steel is shaped step by step into a completely homogeneous mass and pressed by impact to achieve uniform grain flow and minimize defect formation. All Cold Steel® tomahawks are also differentially hardened: the cutting edge and striking surface of the hammer are fully hardened for sharpness, while the rest of the head is kept softer to absorb shock and impact.

The influence of the famous Viking weapons far outlived the actual rule of the Vikings. In particular, their axes served as a model for many designs still in use today. The Cold Steels® Nordmann Axe has a curved cutting edge that allows for deep cuts and ends with two sharp points. Typically, the lower point served to grab the opponent’s shield, leg, arm, shoulder or neck to temporarily immobilize them or bring them closer. The upper point was designed more for hacking or with a direct thrusting motion to pierce. The Norse Hawk is one of the most popular models in the Cold Steel® Tomahawk collection. It is highly valued by reenactors and sport throwers alike, who admire its balance, effectiveness and ability to effortlessly stick.
