Enjoy Rommund's Axe, Gotland Viking Axe
Viking axe based on an archaeological find from Rommunds, Gotland
This high-quality Viking Age bearded axe was handcrafted based on an original iron find from Rommunds (Gammelgarn, Gotland, Sweden) dating to around 800–1099 AD (see last two images).
The axe blade was hand-forged from carbon steel. Its special shape features decorative elements in the form of plants, and the original dimensions of the historical model have been preserved. The original find from Gotland from the early Middle Ages, which may have served as a battle axe and a work axe, can be admired in the State Historical Museum ( Statens Historiska Museum , Historiska Museet for short) in Stockholm.
The Rommunds hand axe is equipped with a natural ash wood handle.
This early medieval axe is designed as a collector's item or decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your Viking costume.
Details:
- Material: Unsharpened carbon steel blade (not stainless), ash wood shaft
- Total length (with axle): approx. 26 cm
- Axe blade: approx. 11 x 8 cm (like the original)
- Shaft thickness: approx. 3 x 2 cm
- Weight: approx. 360 g
The above specifications may vary slightly from copy to copy.
The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend regular maintenance of the blade, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for preserving steel products.
