As the pirate ship begins to cast its grappling lines, you grab your boarding axe. You've used this as a tool aboard the ship, but now it comes in handy when you cut a grappling line in two. Screams of fear fill the air as the boarding pirates fall into the depths of the water.

DETAILS

The Epic Armoury Boarding Axe is a 62cm heavy axe designed for sailors and swashbucklers. It features a 15cm blade and, along with its pick, is ideal for both hacking at your enemy and breaking down doors when trying to take over a ship. The short, hooked axe head is hand-painted to look like real metal (although it's made of soft foam) and is attached to a handle designed to look like weathered wood.

Made from durable closed-cell foam around a solid 10mm fiberglass core and finished with a strong latex coating, your new LARP axe will give you the security and appeal you want when building your Defiant kit.

HISTORY

• The first handled axe was created around 6000 BC using birch tar and rawhide lashings to secure the blade to its handle.
• Many battle axes served as tools and were cheaper to make than swords.
• Boarding axes were designed to be heavy for cutting grapple lines and were used during the 17th and 18th centuries.
