Hand forged bearded Viking axe



The bearded axe or skeggøx (from the Old Norse word skegg for beard and øx for axe) was popular from the 6th to the late 19th century. During the Viking Age, it was very popular as both a tool and a weapon. Compared to the sword, it was not only simpler, but also much cheaper to produce and was therefore the most important weapon for the common people in early medieval Scandinavia.



The distinctive blade of the axe offered here is mounted on an ash wood handle. It is hand-forged from carbon steel, has a blunt cutting edge and was deliberately left unpolished. The black tinder coating gives the Viking axe a rustic and authentic character.



This Viking bearded axe is designed as a collector's item or as a decorative object and is also ideal as an accessory, for example to complete your costume. So nothing stands in the way of your transformation into a proud warrior!
