Get Churburg Medieval Hourglass Gloves, 1.2mm Steel and Brass

Churburg hourglass gloves, medieval gauntlets, pair, 14th century

1.2mm steel, brass and leather

In the late Middle Ages and early modern period, gauntlets were an indispensable part of plate armour. They offered protection for the hands and wrists in both hand-to-hand combat and jousting tournaments.

The late medieval fighting gloves we offer here in pair are also known as hourglass gloves due to their special hourglass-like shape. Very similar gloves belong to the famous plate armour #13 from Churburg. The original full armour, which was probably made in Milan at the end of the 14th century (approx. 1390), can now be admired in the Churburg armoury ( Castel Coira ) in South Tyrol.

Our churburg armoured gloves are hand-made from 1-1.2 mm thick steel (slight variations in steel thickness are possible due to the manual manufacturing process). Just like the original models, they are artfully decorated and reinforced with brass plating on the knuckles, wrist and lower edge of the cuff. The interior is blackened for better protection against corrosion and lined with soft suede stitched gloves.

These fingered hentzen are characterised not only by their authentic and historically correct appearance, but also by their flexible design, which guarantees sufficient freedom of movement. The integrated suede gloves as well as additional sewn and nailed insoles made of durable leather ensure high comfort and prevent chafing on the steel plates.

Of course, these freely movable plate gauntlets can also be combined with other medieval knight armour besides the Churburg armour. They are best suited to late medieval settings and are particularly suitable for depicting a 14th century European warrior or knight. However, please note that this pair of armoured gauntlets is not suitable for display combat, but is intended for high-end costume use or as a collector's or display item.
