Great Wave Wakizashi

The Great Wave wakizashi, created by Paul Chen for Hanwei, features the Japanese tomoe motif, often used as a family crest and as an ornament for shrines. The tsuba, fuchi, and kashira are made of blackened iron and decorated with the tomoe mon .

The blade, hand-forged from T10 carbon steel, has a long (o)kissaki . It has been differentially hardened and has a pronounced hardness line ( hamon ).

The saya is painted deep black. The tsuka , covered in ray skin, has a high-quality black Japanese cotton wrap and matching sageo .
