Give the Grand Cross of Steel Troll

Large troll cross made of iron

This handmade troll cross made of iron is forged from one piece. The ends are slightly curved and the surface is untreated to preserve its rustic character. The troll cross can be worn as a belt in combination with a long cord. Cord is not included.

The origin of the troll cross (Swedish: trollkors ), commonly considered a protective symbol from ancient Scandinavian folklore, is highly controversial. Since there is virtually no archaeological evidence for it, there is much speculation and uncertainty as to whether it is actually a real symbol from the Viking Age or the Middle Ages.

The troll cross probably dates back to an ancient custom widespread throughout much of Scandinavia. It is said that iron troll crosses were placed over front doors, windows and barn doors to protect people, livestock and homes from cunning trolls, evil magic, ghosts, disease and all manner of dangers. Because of its shape, the troll cross is sometimes associated with the Odal rune Othala from the Old Futhark alphabet, meaning possession and inheritance, but here too there are no verifiable sources for this hypothesis.

Although the troll cross is obviously based on a folk tradition or belief, its common form today (ring-shaped, with two crossed ends) and its use as a jewelry pendant or amulet or talisman are modern inventions. It was not until the late 1990s that a Swedish blacksmith designed a pendant in this shape, which quickly became very popular. In Germanic-Neopagan circles (including Asatru ), the iron troll cross is now a popular protective symbol.

This troll cross may not have the historical relevance and authenticity of an Old Norse Thor's Hammer, but it is still a fine piece of jewelry. Whether at medieval markets, Viking events, reenactment events, or just in modern everyday life, men and women can enhance their attire with this beautiful piece of ironwork. And if you are afraid of trolls, goblins, and other creatures, you can also make your home a safe place with some cleverly placed troll crosses!
