Discover Late Medieval Gorget With Gorget, 1.6mm Steel

Late medieval gorget with gorget, 1.6 mm steel

This wearable replica of a late medieval plate armor for the neck, chin, and collar is made of 1.6 mm (16 gauge) steel and blackened inside for better corrosion protection.

The neck guard, also called the chin guard or chinreff , has the multi-layered design typical of late medieval Gothic plate armor (15th/16th centuries). While the neck and chin guards are firmly riveted together, the top plate is hinged by rivets and can be folded up and down. When pushed up, the extension reaches below the eyes and provides additional facial protection. It is reinforced at the top edge and has a number of round cutouts that provide the necessary air circulation. On the right side of the chin guard is a small elevation that keeps the movable plate securely in position when folded.

At the back, the neck support is equipped with a two-piece, side-hinged neck protector, which can be attached to the front neck protector using a small pin. The front and back panels form a complete ring-shaped neck.

This armored collar is ideal for late medieval and Renaissance settings. It's equally suitable for medieval reenactment, LARP, theater, TV/film, and costume design, and will make your transformation into a proud and noble knight or warrior simply perfect.

Details:

- Material: 1.6 mm (16 ga) steel sheet, steel rivets

- Minimum/maximum height: approx. 22 cm with folding plate below / approx. 27 cm with folding plate above

- Maximum width (at shoulder height): approx. 28 cm

- Neck opening at back: approx. 15.5 cm

- Maximum neck circumference: approx. 48 cm

- Maximum width of the facial area: approx. 16 cm

- Weight: approx. 2.1 kg

The above specifications may vary slightly from copy to copy.

Please note:

To ensure the armor is right for you, remember to take your measurements with the gambeson (and/or any other garment or chain you plan to wear underneath).

The steel used here is not stainless and may show slight signs of corrosion. We recommend regularly maintaining plate armor, for example with Ballistol, a universal oil ideal for preserving steel products.
