Pompeian gladius, windlass



Lightweight and efficient – ​​this is what the gladius was called in the Roman army. It was the most important weapon because it could be used efficiently in any hand-to-hand combat situation. Pompeii was one of the later versions. For a more detailed look you can consult the book What the Soldiers Wore on Hadrian's Wall by Russell Robinson. In this Pompeii version the curvature was removed and the size of the upper part was reduced. However, it was just as effective and easy to make. This replica is made of high carbon steel and has a turned handle made of ash and maple.



Includes matching wooden case with leather sheath and brass appliqués.
