Roman Gladius



The Roman gladius is perhaps the most famous piece of ancient weaponry. Its simple, long double-edged blade with a long point makes it an ideal stabbing or piercing weapon that could defeat the body armour of its day.



This Cold Steel® interpretation is not a reproduction of a specific ancient gladius, but rather a collection of the key features of this historic sword. The blade, for example, is in the traditional shape, but unlike the ancient version, it is made of spring-hardened carbon steel. It is fully ground and highly polished on both sides. The tip is long but sturdy enough not to bend or break. The handle is carved from rosewood and decorated in a classical style.



The wooden scabbard is covered with black leather and decorated with a muzzle plate, lid plate and carrying rings made of solid brass.
