Give Geißfuß - Cocking Lever for Medieval Crossbows
Crowbar, cocking lever for medieval crossbows
This metal lever for cocking a crossbow is also called a cocking foot because of its shape.
This practical, rotating clamping device consists of a lever arm, a forked lower part with two curved arms and a claw-like double hook. The forearms run along both sides of the shaft (also called a pillar ) and are held in place by protruding bolts or levers. The articulated claws grab the tendon. The crossbow is then prepared for firing by turning the lever: With a strong pull backwards, towards the end of the column, the string is fed into the so-called nut and thus tensioned.
In the case of crossbows, which could no longer be manually cocked using pure muscle power due to their greater pulling force, but which still did not require winches, this energy-saving mechanical cocking device was part of the equipment of every crossbow shooter in the Middle Ages.
This crossbow cocker is the perfect accessory for our medieval crossbow models (item no. 0616510200, 0616510300 and 0616510400).
