A gambeson is almost indispensable for exhibition and wrestling. The gambeson, also called a gambison , armor , or aketon , was worn under plate and chain armor in the Middle Ages. It increased the comfort of wearing your steel armor and could also absorb enemy blows, thus reducing the risk of injury.

This Ulfberth gambeson is made from three layers of fabric: an outer layer of cotton fabric (canvas), a padded polyester layer, and a cotton inner lining. The upper body padding is diamond-shaped. The padding is horizontal at the waist and vertical at the hips and arms. The gambeson fastens with leather straps and metal buckles at the center front. The sleeves are secured with Nestel ties and can be removed as desired. The high collar greatly increases comfort when wearing pieces of armor or chain mail around the neck.
