The franziska, named for its Franconian origins, was used by the Franks as a throwing weapon and in hand-to-hand combat.



The elegant form of this axe is legendary, and its raised upper tip and downward-curving edge were equally capable of penetrating mail armour.



This Franziska, made by Paul Chen at the Hanwei Forge, features a forged axe head in a weathered grey look, as well as a hardwood handle thickened at the top, which ensures a secure hold of the axe head. Like the originals, the shaft is also slightly curved backwards to increase the chance of the axe getting stuck when thrown.
