Chain skirts, also called chain aprons, were particularly popular in the late Middle Ages. As plate armour dominated in this period, only the exposed parts and transitions were protected with ring armour.

The rrr chain mesh: This chain mesh is made up of completely round rings with round rivet heads. Each ring is riveted by hand. The braid is 4 in 1. We call this type of braid rrr (English = round ring ing r ring).
