Get FWM Chain Skirt, Flat Ring With Wedge Rivets, 8mm Dia, Untreated
FWM chain skirt, flat ring with wedge rivets, 8 mm diameter, untreated
- Fully suitable for show fights -
The chain skirt, also called chain apron, was particularly popular in the late Middle Ages because in this period plate armour dominated and only the exposed parts and transitions were protected with ring armour. Our chain skirts are also ideal as a starting material for your own projects.
The braid type FWM is a variant of the European flat ring braid. One row consists of flat rings riveted in a wedge shape, the second row consists of stamped rings of the same size. This method saved a lot of work in the Middle Ages and also in antiquity, as only every second ring had to be riveted. The braiding is 4 in 1. Riveting using wedge rivets (triangular rivets) did not appear until the late Middle Ages. The braid types FRW and FWM are therefore only suitable for depictions of the late Middle Ages.
