Bjorn Flap Skirt, Viking Coat, Brown SIZE S

Discover Bjorn Flap Skirt, Viking Coat, Brown

Bjorn flap skirt, Viking coat, brown, various sizes

Our Viking coat is made of sturdy cotton fabric ( canvas ). The body part has a lining on the inside. The coat has a loose cut so you can wear it comfortably in an onion look. The total length ends just above the knee and corresponds to the depictions of the High Middle Ages. We recommend always combining the skirt with a belt, as it cinches in a similar way to the current bathrobe. The belt is not included and must be purchased separately.

The flap skirt (also called flap kilt ) was originally an item of clothing of the Eurasian equestrian peoples (including the Huns and Avars) and was brought to the West during the Migration Period or in the Early Middle Ages. The Vikings and Russians adopted this type of coat or jacket and decorated it with their own ribbons woven into planks. A typical feature of the Nordic flap skirt are the triangular flaps at the front, which are folded over each other and fastened with a belt. Historical depictions of flap skirts can be found, for example, on the helmets of Sutton Hoo and Valsgärde from the 7th century. Several fragments of these Viking cloaks were also found in the Viking Age settlement of Haithabu, the most important Viking trading centre in Jutland (near Schleswig). The flap coat was combined with a tunic and harem trousers. Depictions of warriors on surviving helmets suggest that they were used not only in everyday life, but also in battle.
